Restoration Project

Restoration Project is a non-profit vocational program for adults recovering from mental illness. There are openings for furniture restoration work. The refinishing program is open Monday through Thursday, 9am to 3 pm. Call 978.263.0416 for price or to schedule an appointment or consultation. Lead a Fun Workshop with Girl Scouts!
Marlborough (March 19)
Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 are having a sleepover at the mall! Volunteers are needed to run three 45-minute workshops (can all be the same workshop repeated) from 7-10p that the girls can choose from. Topics and activities for workshops
should be fun and age-appropriate. Share your passion or skills - from games to
yoga, cooking to hairdressing, crafts to science experiments - and anything in between!
Not sure what you have to share or don't have time to come up with a workshop? Lead
a workshop that is already planned! Volunteers should enjoy working with girls in
grades 6-12. We will provide needed supplies and guidance for all workshops. The
 event will take place on Saturday, March 19 and volunteers will be needed from
about 6:30-10:30 pm at the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough. For more information,

Do you have teenage children interested in careers in biotechnology, biomedical research or the health professions?

Discover Your Future in Biotechnology, Biomedical Research and the Health Professions, will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Worcester Technical High School.  The event is open to high school juniors and seniors and college students.  

The day will feature an exciting opening address by Robert Satcher, MD, PhD, the first orthopedic surgeon NASA astronaut.  Dr. Satcher will discuss his personal experiences in the sciences and his mission to the International Space Station.  The morning will also feature breakout sessions focused on professional schools; allied and related health programs; nursing; and the business and technology of health care. 

Afternoon sessions will be offered on admissions, financial aid, interviewing skills and  transfer/transition issues.  A recruitment fair featuring employers and over forty college programs at the twelve Colleges of Worcester Consortium institutions will also be held in the afternoon.

DONATE A SUIT AND CHANGE A WOMAN’S LIFE
Dress for Success Worcester, an affiliate of the international non-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women, is participating in S.O.S. – Send One Suit – Weekend® taking place February 24-27, 2011.  This annual campaign encourages women nationwide to donate one new or nearly-new interview suit to help another woman enter the workforce and take charge of her life.

Dressbarn, the national title sponsor and drop-off location for S.O.S. - Send One Suit – Weekend®, will accept donations of nearly-new professional apparel for women throughout the four-day event.  During the campaign’s eight years, more than 315,000 suits and career separates have been donated by consumers at dressbarn stores. The donations are distributed to Dress for Success affiliates located throughout the United States.  On average, more than 20% of each affiliate’s annual suiting needs are met through S.O.S –Send One Suit- Weekend®.

The Special Olympics Winter Games will occur around Worcester on Saturday, March 12 and Sunday March 13, 2011. Volunteers of all ages and skills are welcome! Opportunities include score keeping, timing, first aid and cheering on the athletes. Those with clinical training can volunteer for the Healthy Athletes screenings. The Marlborough Junior Woman's Club is prepared to deliver delicious handmade chocolates donated by Elle's Edibles with cards made by Lunchtime Studios to the Marlborough and Hudson Public Libraries in celebration of Love Your Library Day (February 14th).

Winter is an especially beautiful time to visit the diverse State Parks of Massachusetts. Whether you are snowshoeing, skiing, or just taking a leisurely walk, being able to identify the tracks and sign of wildlife along the trail will add to your experience. Join wildlife expert Bob Metcalfe at the Tsongas Gallery in park headquarters for an indoor lesson in track identification, followed by a two hour walk into the woods of Walden to search for wildlife tracks and sign. This is a program for ages five and up. Don't forget warm clothes and boots.

Donations of greeting cards - donate your unused greeting cards to the Marlborough Senior Center. They cannot accept cards that identify an affiliation with a particular organization, such as the Alzheimer's Association, etc.

The Worcester Public Schools Second Annual Science and Engineering Fair will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at the EcoTarium featuring student projects from Grades 5-12.  The majority of the projects will be from the middle grades, 5-8. Judges are a key part of the Science Fair!

Judges are asked to arrive between 3:15 - 3:30. A short overview of the judging process will start at 3:30 with judging to commence at 4:00 and end at 5:30. We will provide coffee, bottled water and light snacks for judges. Judges may bring family members who might like to explore the EcoTarium at no charge during the judging hours.

Members of the community are invited to attend a special presentation by well-known hypnotist Dan LaRosa on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Wayside Racquet and Swim Club in Marlborough.The evening, which is  a fundraiser for the Marlborough HS All-nighter, will begin with a social hour at 6:30pm. LaRosa’s presentation will begin at 7:30pm. This event is for parents and other adults only.
