Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving both remind us to reflect on how much we have to be grateful for and to not take our extraordinary good luck to be born in this place and time for granted. We have the freedom we have because of the hard work and sacrifice of those who came before us, and this month, we formally say thank you.
The Marlborough Junior Woman’s Club said thank you to our veterans with our Date Night fundraiser at Speaker’s Night Club earlier this month, raising $500 for the homeless veterans of Veterans Inc. We cooked and served Thanksgiving meals to 80 men and women who have fallen on hard times at Our Father’s Table last night in Marlborough, and brought the bountiful leftovers to the grateful folks at the homeless shelter Roland’s House. Our Warm for the Holidays Linen Drive to collect blankets, sheets and towels for needy families continues. The Marlborough Junior Woman’s Club believes in Giving Thanks and Giving Back.
The Marlborough Rotary Club will hold the 27th annual Turkey Shoot on Sat Nov 20th. This event will take place at the Assabet Valley Technical High School from 6-9 pm.
Raffle prizes will include gift certificate to restaurants, a bicycle and cash. This family-oriented event will include a snack bar, so bring the kids. The money raised will allow the Rotary to deliver food baskets to 30 families in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The 4th Annual Culinary Arts Giant Bake Sale at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School (215 Fitchburg St Marlborough) will be held Tuesday, Nov 23rd from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm. Pies, cannollis, cakes, cheesecakes, cookies, breads, rolls and breakfast items will be for sale.
I spent a few hours yesterday sorting, bagging and tagging blankets, sheets and towels donated via the Warm for the Holidays Linen Drive. If you are ever feeling pessimistic about the state of the world, spend a couple hours volunteering. People have been truly generous. And as luck would have it, I was sorting a bag when a little girl and her mom were at Furnishing Options. The girl was so excited about getting a Winnie the Pooh washcloth!
If you are interested in volunteering or donating linens, check out www.FurnishingOptions.org and email drive@marlboroughjuniors.org.
