I love nature, but am not found of bugs, particulary now that a family member is being treated for Lyme Disease after our recent camping trip. This seems like a good time to update our aresenal of weapons against disease-carrying insects.

This is an overview of a Consumer Reports insect repellent article: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/july/health/insect-repellent/overview/index.htm

This one is on safe insect repellent tips for babies and kids: http://blogs.consumerreports.org/baby/2010/06/safe-insect-repellent-for-babies-baby-reviews-kids-children-chemicals-containing-deet.html

Consumer Reports rated insect repellants in their July 2010 issue, and these products were recommended (in order of effectiveness): Off Deep Woods Sportsmen II, Cutter Backwoods Unscented, Off FamilyCare Smooth & Dry, 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent 8, Repel Plant Based Lemon Eucalyptus, Natrapel 8 hour with Picardin. Note that only the last two producuts do not contain DEET.
