According to the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, information compiled from their 2009 records, the Better Business Bureau, Attorney General’s Office and Federal Trade Commission, the top five scams that were reported by consumers were in the areas of:

Home Improvement Contracting

Auto Insurance

Health Insurance

Lemon Law

Foreclosure Assistance

For more information about common scams and how to protect yourself, visit http://consumer.gov/ncpw/ They have info on the new credit card rules, protecting your identity, and how to file a consumer complaint with the FTC (very easy, I've done it quite a few times!)
