The Folk Art Festival of New England is in
The Marlborough Public Library has Halloween events planned for this week:
On Monday Oct. 26th from 4-5 pm, storyteller John Porcino will tell spooky tales. This event is free, just show up!
On Tuesday Oct. 27th, the library will host a Halloween party from 4-5 pm. There will be stories, crafts and games. This event is geared to children ages 4 and up. Please call to register – 508.624.6902.
Friends Marl Pub Lib—“40th Anniversary Celebration Author/Celebrity Program-Nov. 18th-7 PM
Doris Kearns Goodwin, world-renowned historian and author, will be presented Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 7:00 PM by The Friends of the Marlborough Public Library in their “40th Anniversary Celebration Author/Celebrity Program” at the Marlborough Middle School’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 25 Union St., Marlborough. Tickets are priced at $7 for adults and $5 for seniors & students under 18. Tickets available at the Marlborough Public Library and the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, 11 Florence St., Marlborough or order tickets by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope and check made out to: The Friends of the Marlborough Pubic Library and mail to: Friends of the Marlborough Public Library, 35 West Main St., Marlborough MA 01752. You can find a public flu clinic offering seasonal flu vaccine by visiting http://flu.masspro.org.
Public health and school-based H1N1 vaccination clinics are expected in November and December, and will be posted at http://flu.masspro.org as they are scheduled.
In the meantime, an interesting website with information on the flu is www.flu.gov.
The Marlborough Fire Department’s Open House is Sat Oct.10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 215 Maple Street. You can expect hands-on demonstrations, pizza, popcorn and ice cream at this family-friendly event.
Bring the family to the Marlborough Library’s 40th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the library’s Bigelow Auditorium. This free event is open to the public and will include entertainment for children and adults.
In 1990,
the U.S. Congress established the first week of October as "Mental Illness
Awareness Week" (MIAW) in recognition of the National Alliance for the
Mentally Ill’s (NAMI) efforts to raise mental illness awareness. Since 1990,
mental health advocates across the country have joined together during the
first week of October to celebrate. For more information on resources available
to those who experience a chronic mental illness, or to those struggling during
these difficult times, visit www.namimass.org.
Worcester Animal Rescue League
The
Worcester Animal Rescue League is hosting the annual “Paws in Motion”
Walk for the Animals on October 24th, 2009. Canine companions are
welcomed to join on the mile walk starting at WARL to Indian Lake and
back to WARL. Costumes for both are enco...uraged!
Registration:
Please register by October 5th by contacting Allie at 508-853-0030 or
AllieWARL@gmail.com. There will be a $10 registration fee for human
walkers. Walkers collecting pledges over $45 receive a WARL short
sleeved t-shirt. Walkers collecting pledges over $65 receive a WARL
long sleeved shirt. All canine walkers receive a complimentary doggy
bag!
Contests: With a $1 entry fee per contest, include yourself
and your dog in any of these contests and win a prize! Best Walker
& Companion Costumes, Best Canine Costume, Best Human Costume, and
Most Impressive Trick.
Rules: All dogs must have a current
Rabies vaccine. Please leave cats and aggressive dogs at home. No
females in heat. Leashes must be shorter than 6 feet. No flexi-leads
allowed. Family-friendly costumes only. Thank you!
Sponsorship:
Pledges will be collected on the day of the walk at the registration
table. If you did not recieve a mailing, please call for sponsor sheets
and envelopes! For credit card pledges, call WARL with card information
prior to walk. Our goal is $100 per walker! All donations are tax
deductible.
100% of profits benefit the Worcester Animal Rescue League. WARL is a no kill, 501©3 non-profit animal shelter.
